Doing FaithJustice

Social Justice Advocacy at Christ the King follows Jesus’ call to seek justice, make peace, and stand with those who are disempowered. We engage in initiatives, events, and partnerships that address diversity and inclusion, environmental care, racial reconciliation, and efforts to break the cycles of hunger and poverty.

 

Our work is grounded in FaithJustice—the conviction that faith and justice are inseparable. God calls communities of believers to act on behalf of the vulnerable, the oppressed, and the marginalized. Through FaithJustice, we live into our baptismal promise to “strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being.”

Christ the King seeks to influence godly change in our community by encouraging systems that are inclusive, equitable, and responsive. We align our advocacy with the wider Episcopal Church, drawing guidance from General Convention, the Office of Government Relations, and the Episcopal Public Policy Network. All issues are approached through Scripture, the Church’s tradition, and our baptismal covenant, while maintaining a non‑partisan witness.​

​The Office of Government Relations represents the policy priorities of The Episcopal Church to the U.S. government  and helps to shape the discussion of political issues throughout the Church.​​​​

​EPPN is a grassroots network of Episcopalians dedicated to the active ministry of public policy advocacy.

The Interfaith Coaltion of Polk County (ICPC)

The ICPC is a coalition of faith communities and leaders from a variety of spiritual traditions dedicated to pursuing peace and understanding through dialogue and cooperation. The Coalition sponsors several annual events, including symposiums and  prayer services.

Episcopalians have worked to make The Episcopal Church a place of belonging and inclusion. At Christ the King, we seek to show God’s blessing in the lives and love of our LGBTQ+ siblings in Christ.

Polk Ecumenical Action Council for Empowerment

PEACE seeks to build a strong network among diverse Christian churches in order to pursue justice for the most vulnerable citizens of Polk County. PEACE accomplishes this by identifying the root causes of community problems and demanding action from public officials to address them.

The Episcopal Church seeks to prayerfully bring the teachings of Jesus to our common life together through the cycle of elections, advocacy, engagement with elected officials, protest, and other civic engagement activities.

Creation Care​

Caring for creation was one of the first vocations given to humanity. Christ the King is guided by the principles of The Episcopal Church's Covenant for the Care of Creation, and involves formation, conservation, and liberating advocacy.
